The Mission of the Batavia Park District is to be a leader for a sustainable community that fosters stewardship of the environment, local recreational assets and open space while delivering high quality programs and services with a focus of fiduciary responsibility and customer satisfaction.
The Batavia Park District has been providing memorable experiences in parks and recreation for the community since its inception in 1969. Nestled in the scenic Fox River Valley and just 45 miles west of Chicago , Batavia serves a thriving, growing community 24,914 people strong. Batavia boasts a windmill heritage, rich in history and steeped in traditional family values. Batavia became a popular place to settle because of its close proximity to the river, trails, thoroughfares, and direct access to Chicago . Add to those elements the family-oriented nature of the city, small hometown feel, and old-fashioned values. Founded in 1833, it is the oldest city in Kane County.
The Batavia Park District was established in 1969 through voter referendum. Since its establishment, the Park District maintains and operates approximately 350 acres, comprised of 39 sites, an in-line skating/skateboarding park, a very unique aquatic facility, a museum and a multitude of baseball and soccer fields and tennis and basketball courts. The Park District offers 1,045 programs each year and serves nearly 94,800 participants through various recreational, arts, and environmental programs. Vibrant and charming, Batavia's Riverwalk (named one of the Midwest region's "Top 10" by the Chicago Tribune) is known for being a unique recreational area in the downtown area. The Batavia Park District is committed to excellence and is a leader in providing leisure experiences that enhance the quality of life for our community.
