Batavia Park District Performance Group Goes Platinum
The Batavia Park District Performance Group, also known as the “Batavia Showstoppers”, struck platinum in their first dance competition on Saturday, March 20 at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles. Performances were critiqued by a panel of judges, and dancers were awarded double platinum, platinum, high gold, gold or silver. The Showstoppers walked away with four platinum awards in areas such as lyrical and jazz and two awards in the “newbie” division that recognizes groups new to the competition.
“To get the recognition of a platinum trophy is awesome especially when it was their first time competing,” said Lori Johnson, Recreation Supervisor in charge of dance for the Batavia Park District.
This is only the second year the dancers have performed together, and they were the only park district dance group in the competition. “The girls were competing against dancers from private studios who have more practice time available to them, and they should be really proud of themselves!” said Johnson. The group is currently preparing for their next competition in May.
