Batavia Teen Center Mission Statement
Through the development of a safe and secure environment, the Batavia Teen Center shall be a youth and adult partnership providing teens with positive service based projects, recreational activities and social interactions, while encouraging healthy decision making in the community of Batavia.
The Batavia Teen Center concept began in May of 1995 during a meeting of a group of Batavia Government officials, police officers and citizens - including eight teens of who came together to discuss what there was for kids to do in Batavia . The idea that evolved was to work with teens, not for teens, to provide the youth of Batavia with positive recreational and social alternatives. The Teen Center came to a reality beginning in February of 1996 when the first steps were taken by the City of Batavia, Batavia Township, Batavia School District and Batavia Park District, by hiring consultants to develop the teen center organizational structure in cooperation with a representative from the Batavia Police Department and representatives of the Batavia Park District who have offered facility space for the Batavia Teen Center at the Eastside Community Center complex and the 27 North Prairie Street White House . At the White House, teens can do homework, watch a large screen TV, play billiards, video games, air hockey, foosball , board games, and all sorts of other activities.
The Teen Center is an ongoing community project that is dedicated to developing healthy youth. |
